COFFEE

Bryan is fueled by coffee. He has been roasting his own beans at home since 2016, and fueling his musical ideas with caffeine since the early 90’s.

Bryan believes there is only one way to consume coffee – Black.

Bryan prefers Kenya AA green beans for roasting.

Bryan doesn’t believe in selling beans, only gifting. And, no, he will not be starting a coffee shop or roasting business. This drug is for personal use only.

Bryan began playing, reading, and writing music on the piano shortly after his third birthday. He developed a fascination for the works of Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart, as well as the soft-rock and beautiful songwriting on the radio in the late 70s and early 80s. In elementary school, he became obsessed with the recorder and later picked up the saxophone. During his school years, he had the incredible opportunity to learn and study jazz under the guidance of local legend Alonzo “Pookie” Johnson. At the age of 14, he made his debut at the iconic Madame Walker Theatre.

While focusing on jazz saxophone, Bryan also immersed himself in classic rock groups like Led Zeppelin and classical and film score orchestral music. Over the years, he received numerous awards and opportunities and added the clarinet to his musical repertoire when he played in a production of Guys and Dolls, sparking a lifelong association with musical theatre. During this time, he also began composing instrumental music for small groups and large jazz ensembles.

Between his studies at Indiana University and Manhattan School of Music, Bryan traveled extensively, playing the saxophone and woodwinds for various artists, bands, and stage productions worldwide. In 2000, he embarked on touring with Broadway musicals, refining his performance skills on instruments that now included flutes, clarinets, oboe, English horn, saxophones, recorders, and world flutes.

Around the same time, Bryan delved deeply into music production, acquiring his own studio space and engaging in arranging, orchestrating, composing, and producing music for live and recorded projects. He also became more involved in programming electronic music for keyboard and production tracks. Despite his busy schedule, he remained in high demand as a saxophone and woodwind specialist, frequently substituting for various Broadway shows.

For several years, Bryan maintained a studio at Spin Recording Studios in Long Island City, Queens. This period marked a significant increase in Bryan’s output. He originated the 10-instrument Reed chair on Book of Mormon and contributed to film projects such as Ice Age 4, television shows including NBC’s Smash, and events like the Billboard Music Awards, the Emmy Awards, and the Tony Awards. He worked with diverse artists, ranging from Lamb of God to the Alex Skolnick Trio. He made contributions as an additional Arranger and co-Orchestrator to Motown the Musical, which earned him his first Tony Nomination. He has the privilege of being a co-orchestrator for Back to the Future the Musical, collaborating with his musical heroes Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. His work on the show even garnered him a nomination for an Olivier Award.

Since 2019, Bryan has operated out of a recording studio he constructed in Cortlandt Manor, NY. He is a co-founder of Mana Music & Media, a comprehensive music production company specializing in licensed and custom work for television, film, and advertisements. Bryan continues to write, record, perform, practice his ever-growing arsenal of instruments, and produce music on a daily basis.
